INKA ADVENTURE

In the afternoon, at 1:30 pm, we start our City Tour in the downtown, visiting Qoricancha, the “Temple of the Sun”. You will observe the relation between Inca culture and Catholicism and learn more about the history of the Incas and the arrival of the Spanish. Then we head to the Plaza de Armas, the main square in the heart of the city and visit the famous Cathedral of Cusco with its beautiful carpentry and colonial paintings. Then we continue the tour, taking you through the hills of Cusco, from where you will have a breathtaking panoramic view of the city and the stunning landscape.

From there, we will start our tour to the impressive archeological sites of Cusco. The first will be Saqsayhuaman and the second, Q’enqo one of the largest sacred places in the region, where sacrifices and mummification took place. The next stop, Puca Pucara. We finish our archeological tourism in the hills with the visit of Tambomachay, a water temple composed of a series of aqueducts, canals and waterfalls that cross the rocks on terraces. From Tambomachay we descend back to the city and the tour ends at “Plaza Recocijo”, another beautiful square of Cusco in the center, where we will arrive approximately at 6:30 pm.

At 6:00 a.m. we will have the first breakfast, then we will drive for 3 hours until Abra Málaga (4,316 m) starting point of our bike tour. After a breafing by our guide you will receive the complete equipment and we will start the electrifying 55km (3h) bike descent towards Huamanmarca. At the end of the route, we leave for Santa María (30 minutes by car) where we will have our first lunch. We will spend the night in a basic lodging, during the trip, we will experience the beauty of the snowy mountains, changing quickly from the humid dry climate and cold to the warm and humid climate. Once you arrive to Santa María, we will have the option of rafting class III and IV- (extra ride) on the Urubamba river that crosses this part of the jungle.

After a rich breakfast at 6:30 in the morning, we will be ready to make the first day of trekking to Santa Teresa. The first two hours of our tour we will have several stops to learn a little more about the rich flora and fauna of the area in which we will find ourselves. One of them will be in a family home where we will relax a few minutes and also find water and some tropical fruits of the region.

 

We will cross a section of the Inca Trail that previously connected the sacred city of the Incas Machupicchu with the city of Vilcabamba, a beautiful place full of stories. We will also have some of the most impressive views of Huancarccasa. Then we will descend to the village of Quellomayo, where we will stop for lunch, then a rest in the hammocks of the place. We will continue with the last 2 hours of walking to the thermal baths of Cocalmayo, where we will have a good time to enjoy this very special place. After the invigorating Inca bath, we will go to our final destination, the city of Santa Teresa, where we will spend our second night in a basic lodging.

After breakfast, we will start trekking to the city of Aguas Calientes. First we walk for 3 hours through the Aobamba valley to the area called Intihuatana, where we will pass through the small government control and continue to Inka Rakay, where we will enjoy lunch on this journey. We will see a series of waterfalls and also have the opportunity to contemplate the majestic mountains Machupicchu and Haynapicchu, as well as the Intihuatana and solar clock, which will be seen at the top of the mountain. After the last 2 hours of walking you will be next to the train line to the city of Aguas Calientes.

This is the most important day of the tour. The day we arrive at one of the 7 wonders of the world. Our tour starts very early to enjoy the sunrise in the Inca citadel of Machupicchu. We will start climbing at 4:30 a.m. It will be 1:30 a.m. walk to Machu Picchu and we will have a 2:00 guide tour of the most important buildings and temples of this city and then we will have free time to explore Machupicchu on its own and maybe climb the Huaynapicchu mountain. Later, it will be the return to the city of hot waters to be able to return to Ollanta or Cusco.
